Professor Małgorzata Omilanowska
A graduate of the University of Warsaw, she is an art historian who works at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as well as being a full professor at the University of Gdańsk. Since 2024, she has been the director of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Her specialisations include issues related to 19th, 20th and 21st-century architecture, with a particular focus on Warsaw, Gdańsk and the Baltic Sea region, as well as the history of monument preservation and artistic life. She has held fellowships at several European research institutions, including the Deutsches Akademisches Austauschdienst and the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin. She has been a member of numerous scientific councils, including the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg and the House of European History in Brussels, and is currently a member of the council of the Deutsches Historisches Institut, the Programme Council of the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk, and the councils of the National Museum in Gdańsk and the Museum of the History of Gdańsk. From 2012 to 2014, she occupied the position of Undersecretary of State, and from 2014 to 2015, she served as Minister of Culture and National Heritage. She has authored over a hundred scientific articles and books.
